Omar Sangurima | Cyber Risk Strategy & Education

Dr. Omar Sangurima serves as Board Director of Cyber Risk Strategy under the Curriculum and Education Committee at the Whole Cyber Human Initiative (WCHI) — a service-disabled veteran–owned 501(c)(3) dedicated to advancing accessible, no-cost cybersecurity education and workforce development worldwide.

As a seasoned cybersecurity leader and educator, Dr. Sangurima embodies the Cyber Sherpa archetype — a professional guide who bridges executive risk management, technical governance, and human-centered education. Within Whole Cyber, he helps shape curriculum strategy, mentor development, and learning outcomes that align real-world workforce needs with accessible training models.

Beyond WCHI, Omar is the Principal Technical Program Manager for Cybersecurity at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where he leads cross-functional programs in governance, third-party risk, and AI security for one of the nation’s most respected research and healthcare institutions. His work spans program delivery, risk management, and security architecture, supporting a 50-person cybersecurity department and developing pathways for apprenticeships and early-career professionals.

An active university instructor, mentor, and community builder, Dr. Sangurima contributes his expertise to organizations including Cyversity, Akylade, Adaptive Foundry, and Ithaca College, supporting mentorship, advisory boards, and curriculum design across higher education and industry. His career reflects over a decade of progressive leadership in governance, compliance, and workforce transformation — helping individuals and organizations alike mature their cybersecurity posture.

Through his role at WCHI, Omar continues to strengthen the bridge between education and employment, ensuring that the next generation of cybersecurity professionals not only gain technical skill but also develop the professional awareness, governance mindset, and collaborative discipline necessary for real-world impact.
